Echo & the Bunnymen may never have become as famous as other British rock bands, but the Liverpool band were a huge influence on the entire New Wave generation. Their second album from 1981 made it into the top ten of the U.K. charts. The band themselves claimed that the reason for their success was black magic, because how else could such a dark album have such an impact on music history and be compared to bands like The Cure or Joy Division.
After Echo & the Bunnymen originally had to do without a drummer for financial reasons and used a drum computer, drummer Pete DeFreitas is now one of the Bunnymen on this album. His influence significantly shaped the driven sound of this album and Heaven Up Here is considered the band's most accessible album.
