Alice Coltrane

Alice Coltrane (née McLeod) was an American jazz musician, composer, and spiritual leader. Born in Detroit in 1937, she was the widow of jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane. After her husband's death in 1967, Alice Coltrane became a leading figure in jazz and spiritual music, blending jazz, Eastern mysticism, and religious themes.

Alice Coltrane's most acclaimed albums are Journey in Satchidananda (1971), World Galaxy (1972), and Universal Consciousness (1971). These albums feature Alice Coltrane's unique combination of spiritual jazz, combining elements of jazz, Indian classical music, and traditional hymns. Standout tracks from these albums include "Journey in Satchidananda," "Galaxy in Turiya," "Oh Allah," and "Om Rama."

An interesting fact about Alice Coltrane is that in the late 1960s she established the Vedantic Center, a spiritual center in California, which provided a space for people to explore Eastern religions and philosophies. She was also an ordained swami in the Vedanta lineage and was known as Swamini Turiyasangitananda.
