Alan Vega (born Alan Bermowitz, 1938-2016) was an American singer-songwriter, musician and artist best known for being the frontman of the influential punk band Suicide.
Suicide's debut album, Suicide (1977), is considered a pioneering work in the development of electronic, post-punk and industrial music, and is highly acclaimed by music critics and historians. The band's signature sound was characterized by Vega's sparse and emotive vocal delivery and Martin Rev's driving electronic instrumentation. Standout tracks from the album include "Frankie Teardrop" and "Ghost Rider".
The band's follow-up album, 1980's Suicide: Alan Vega and Martin Rev, was a more streamlined version of their debut, featuring some of the duo's most popular songs, such as "Dream Baby Dream" and "Cheree".
The band released two more albums, A Way of Life (1988) and Why Be Blue (1995), before disbanding in the late 1990s. During the band's hiatus, Vega released several solo albums, including Collision Drive (1981), Saturn Strip (1983) and Dujang Prang (1994). His last solo album, IT (2011), was released posthumously.
An interesting fact about Alan Vega is that he was also a visual artist, and his artwork was featured in several exhibitions during his lifetime.
