Number one slacker rocker Mac DeMarco is back. Two years after his album "This Old Dog", which only just missed the top 20 in the UK, he has a new album in his luggage.
"Here Comes The Cowboy" is album number four, with which he continues the relaxed psychedelic-folk-rock sound of his predecessor, instead of changing to western or country music.
Instead, the "Cowboy" title is due to the fact that he likes to call his friends lovingly as such.
But there is a bit of cowboy: The video for the first single "Nobody" shows a singing and cigar smoking reptiloid wearing a cowboy hat.
The Canadian multi-instrumentalist recorded a total of 13 songs for "Here Comes The Cowboy" in January in his own jazz-jazz studio in Los Angeles. As usual, he recorded all instruments himself, including guitar, bass and drums. Only on the keyboard he was partly supported by Alec Meen, who is a member of his live band.
Mac DeMarco is certainly one of the most extraordinary, but also most talented musicians of his genre. It's worth listening to in "Here Comes The Cowboy".
