Founded in 2010 by Andrew Savage, Austin Brown (both vocals and guitar), Sean Yeaton (bass) and Max Savage (drums) in Brooklyn, the postpunk garage indie artrock quartet Parquet Courts has been releasing their albums regularly since 2011.
With their canting-noisy sound, according to their own statement "Americana Punk", Parquet Courts have developed from a small niche into a real cult band, which inspires more and more indie listeners with a mix of vocals, guitars and uncanny infectious grooves and drives them to the concerts.
"Wide Awake" is album no. 5, which revolves around independence, individuality, collectivism and publicity and was produced by none other than Brian Burton, better known under the alias Danger Mouse! It provided a fresh breeze, which is well suited to the restless hustle and bustle of the formation.
In keeping with this, a marked leap in quality can also be seen in songwriting. Bands like Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and Black Flag served as role models for the recordings of "Wide Awake". So groups who know how to combine passion for traditional punk rock with lyrical tenderness - just like Parquets Courts.
