"Diamonds On The Inside", shows BEN on an undisputed creative flight of fancy. Impressing with the characteristic style and clear vision of his previous four studio albums, "Diamonds..." will now have the reverence experts on their toes
At the beginning a surprising Rocksteady excursion ("With My Own Two Hands"), then Old School Blues or Funk quotes, Soul or Gospel vocals - BEN HARPER always finds coherent, timeless quotes to his songs and thus writes a continuation of his highly personal 'Soul' story. Besides great ballads (the quiet version, as you know it from him, but here several times also uptempo!) blues-rocking "Diamonds..." then at times irresistible ("Brown Eyed Blues") or surprises towards the end with punky-urban attacks ("Temporary Remedy" + "So High So Low"), as you would hardly have expected them so far from BEN HARPER.
M. Chiu in Rolling Stone 3 / 03: "It's a little feast, as Ben Harper here with his band, the Innocent Criminals, for 60 minutes, showing off his affection for black Americana and more with loving artistry Artistry. An album full of wonderful loud and quiet moments."
