Wilhelm Kempff

Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) was a German pianist and composer, considered to be one of the most important and influential musicians of the 20th century. He is best known for his interpretations of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, and Johannes Brahms, but he also had a repertoire that included works by Debussy, Scriabin, and Bartók.

Kempff's most famous albums include Piano Concertos of Beethoven, Piano Concertos of Schubert, and The Golden Age of Wilhelm Kempff. His most well-known songs include Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 13 (Pathetique), Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor, and Schubert's Impromptus, D. 899.

An interesting fact about Kempff is that he was a passionate advocate of music education, and he wrote several books on the subject. He also founded the Kempff Academy in Positano, Italy, which offers music courses and masterclasses to aspiring musicians.
