Re-issue of Pere Ubu's first studio album. Today, the album is still as direct and powerful as it was when it was first discovered, but when you listen to Pere Ubu's debut "The Modern Dance", you have to keep asking yourself what the hell you're actually listening to.
The term "art-punk" may help a little. Crazy sounds, manic rock'n'roll riffs, comic-like vocals and a typical garage sound make the album a milestone in experimental rock music. With a sound somewhere between the Velvet Underground, the Sex Pistols and The Residents, this crazy "art-punk" band makes for a truly extraterrestrial listening experience.
One is inclined to agree with Allmusic's description: "You soon realize that this is punk rock like you've never heard it before." For this edition, Paul Hamann from Suma has upgraded the original analog tapes from two-track to the highest digital resolution, which is at least four times better than the original. The tracks have been carefully remastered by sound architect Brian Pyle to further bring out the unique hidden qualities.
