Released on June 1, 1999, No Angel is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Dido. Initially gaining modest attention, the album's popularity surged after Eminem sampled Dido's song "Thank You" in his hit single "Stan" in 2000. This exposure propelled No Angel to international success, eventually selling over 15 million copies worldwide and becoming the second best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK, behind James Blunt's Back to Bedlam .
The album blends elements of folk-pop and electronica, featuring introspective lyrics and Dido's soothing vocals. Notable tracks include "Here with Me," "Hunter," "Don't Think of Me," and the aforementioned "Thank You." The album's mellow and atmospheric sound contributed to its widespread appeal.
Reviews
"Dido’s debut remains a shiny and polished effort full of comforting verse-chorus-verse structures that draw on everyday woes, none too specific so as to happily sit with the extremely casual record-buyer." — BBC
"No Angel is a delightful collection of lullabies and Dido is nothing less than charming." — Slant Magazine
"Dido Armstrong would seem to have all the cards: She has the fresh, earthy looks of Jewel, the divine pipes of Sarah McLachlan, and pens swirly, trip-hop dreamscapes that would slot precisely between Beth Orton and Portishead on a mixtape." — Tinnitist
