Michelangelo Dying is the seventh studio album by Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon, released in September 2025 on Mexican Summer. Genre: art pop / indie alternative. Co-produced with Samur Khouja, the album was recorded across Cardiff, Hydra, London, Los Angeles and the Joshua Tree desert, reflecting its shifting moods and layered textures. It builds on the sonic palette of her earlier records, with jagged guitars, processed saxophones, filtered vocals and dense arrangements creating a sound that is at once abrasive and beautiful.
The record was shaped by a period of personal upheaval, including the end of a long relationship and the realisation of having abandoned herself in all-consuming love. Le Bon has described the separation as “like an amputation that you don’t really want, but you know will save you.” The songs carry themes of loss, memory and identity, confronting heartache as it unfolds rather than at a safe distance. The result is one of her most emotionally raw and sonically ambitious works to date.
