  • Otis Redding's third album presents his unlimited talent as well as a clear direction and newly won confidence, because half of his songs testify to an increased musical range. A quarter of the album is dedicated to Redding's versions of songs by his idol Sam Cooke, who died the previous December.

"Otis Redding Sings Soul" is regarded by many critics as Redding's first big album. Recorded in April and July of 1965, it was published on September 15 of the same year. The style of Cooke and Redding could not be more different; Cooke even and confident, Redding rough and imploring. But Redding's versions of "Shake" and "A Change Is Gonna Come" show how Cooke's sound and message helped Redding shape his Southern Soul sound. Redding's vocals reach a new, expressive level here, as do cover versions of B. B. King's "Rock Me Baby" and the Motown hit "My Girl".

This great album got, like all new editions of Analogue Productions, the best possible equipment, starting with the remastering of the original analogue tapes by Kevin Gray, supported by electroplating and pressing on 200g super-quiet vinyl by our own company Quality Record Pressings. Finally, everything is packed in a folding cover with a hand-applied printing sheet, recognisable by the typical folding, by Stoughton Printing. Luxury from A-Z; you will be delighted by the result!

"But what a voice, what kind of guitar (you only have to listen to the Cutting torch solo in 'Rock Me Baby'), what horns! And what timing, what absolutely tight rhythms! The pure Madness, of today's post-month R'n'B productions still in the mix "and a certificate of poverty." (Good Times, February / March 2017)
