The album "Jacknife" is one of the overlooked gems in alto saxophonist Jackie McLean's extensive Blue Note discography. He recorded it in 1965 with a band of young, yet consistently top-notch musicians. As a musical mentor, McLean generously gave his accompanists—including drummer Jack DeJohnette at his first recording session!—the opportunity to contribute their own compositions to the repertoire. The album, which Blue Note didn't release until ten years later, turned out to be accordingly fresh and diverse.
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold sleeve, padded inner sleeve
