"3+3" from 1973 was a giant step for the Isley Brothers. The original members Ronald, O'Kelly and Rudolph Isley recruited their cousin Chris Jasper to handle the keyboard; younger brothers Ernie and Marvin joined on guitar and bass, respectively. The line-up was also reflected in the band's sound, which became more rock more in the direction of rock, but without neglecting the R'n'B and soul and soul sound, which had won them a loyal fan base fan base
Special mention should be made of the Hendrix-like fuzz of Ernie and the bass adventures of Marvin, which endlessly enrich the music of the Isley Brothers. The album opener ,,That Lady" was to become an overnight hit and the Isley Brothers interpretation of the Doobie Brothers song ,,Listen To The Music" is tremendously infectious, while ,Summer Breeze" by Seals&Crofts has become an absolute soul classic since the Isley Brothers version
Reviews
"Overall a bit slick, but nice to have - even as this strong reissue in a glossy gatefold cover." (Good Times, April / May 2014)
