Hildur Guðnadóttir – Where To From

Where to From is the debut solo studio album by Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, scheduled for release on 31 October 2025 via Deutsche Grammophon. It is built from musical “diary entries” — brief melodic or tonal ideas she recorded on her phone over several years — which she later expanded into full compositions. Guðnadóttir plays cello and vocals, and is joined by longtime collaborators on strings and voices, using minimal arrangements to give each moment breathing room.

The music is quiet, reflective and intimate, exploring themes of friendship, creative process and direction. The arrangements lean lean and the pacing deliberate — the pieces shift gently, allowing space for tension and silence to become part of the narrative. It arrives after a decade without a solo album, marking a turning point in Guðnadóttir’s work and underscoring her identity beyond film scoring in deeply personal musical form.
