  • The paths we walk with Brooklyn's Big Thief - namely Adrianne Lenker on guitar and vocals, Buck Meek on guitar, Max Oleartchick on bass and James Krivenchia on drums - on "Capacity," the band's highly anticipated second album, are overgrown with the wilderness of living souls

Following last year's impressive "Masterpiece," "Capacity" was recorded with producer Andrew Sarlo in the snowy winter nest that is Outlier Studio in upstate New York. The album plunges headfirst into the middle of several lives. These lives are inhabited and uninhabited, headless or relaxed, all wishing for a return to a state where one can be vulnerable again. Lenker joins us to meet a wide variety of women who have grappled with the complex questions of identity. These questions are both dangerous and curious, but never implausible. Lenker shows us the softer side of what it means to be ripped open. Seduced into love, dropped, and in the second act witness to picking yourself back up and getting ready to start it all over again

This time around, Destiny will meet a soul with thicker skin, better able to take the setbacks and independently dish out a left jab or two. The album is full of dense, unaffected beauty: most of the songs on "Capacity" were first played in the studio and recorded on the same day

"This album has even darker gloom and brighter light," Lenker explains. "The songs search for deeper self-acceptance; for embracing the world inside and out. That process I think started with ''Masterpiece,' as a reaction out of the pain hi n, where with 'Capacity,' I feel like I'm looking at the pain from the outside."

"They go to the heart immensely, as does the whole album." (Zeit.de)

"It is precisely through the consistent abstinence from perfection, through the flat production and the carefree renunciation of subsequent corrections of any kind that 'Capacity' becomes a true beauty." (Tonspion.com)

"This album is already a highlight of the year." (Eclipsed Magazine, 8.5 out of 10 points)
