  • Sextile, the Los Angeles-based duo celebrated for their indomitable, electronic punk sound, have announced details of their forthcoming, powerful album "Yes, Please.", out on Sacred Bones. Sextile, who are currently on a major US tour with labelmates Molchat Doma, announce their forthcoming 2025 album with the single "Freak Eyes", which takes their dark, pulsating sound to new heights.

The song begins with a nasty bass growl that abruptly transitions into a techno beat peppered with clanging cowbells and a sharp hi-hat. "I feel the pressure / Man the pressure I feel when we're together", sings singer Brady Keehn coolly but firmly in the first lines. Inspired by the way pressure can create both challenges and improvements, "Freak Eyes" conjures up electrifying images of seedy backrooms on the Sunset Strip and leather-clad dance floors in warehouses.

Some bands find their groove and stick with it, others are constantly reinventing themselves. Sextile is one of the latter, enjoying the thrill of an ever-changing map. Los Angeles duo Melissa Scaduto and Brady Keehn make music with a lust for life, drawing inspiration from everything from no wave to hardstyle. Their latest album "yes, please." pushes into bold new territory, blending anarchic electro fire with raw personal memories - and enough amped-up bass to burst a speaker or two.

"yes, please." is an album of contrasts: a vulnerable record that bares its soul as much as it revels in excess, showing just how far you can push your sound when you shake off your inhibitions. Together, the pair betray a confidence that never wavers, making a bold splash on the fast-paced intro with a rave siren straight out of a '00s New York house party or sweaty Brooklyn warehouse. The spirit of electroclash also stalks the building, showing its identity in the cowbell-laced thunderclaps of "Freak Eyes" and "Rearrange" and providing a dirty dancefloor bomb with "Women Respond to Bass". "Push Ups" - with vocals by Jehnny Beth - is pure muscle music, strengthened by a booming bass and complemented by synths that hammer as hard as hailstones on a glass roof. But behind the slogans, the brashness and the monster dance energy lies an intimacy that can only be found by opening up about painful, life-changing events. "Hospital" and "Soggy Newports" reflect Scaduto's harrowing experiences in a New York state facility after a near-fatal accident.

"Resist" deals with abortion rights, while "Penny Rose" addresses American education, artificial intelligence and future generations. Scaduto's elastic vocals shine everywhere, from the razor-sharp synthesizers of "S is For" to the trance-pop highs of "Kids" featuring Automatic's Izzy Glaudini. "yes, please." is an action-packed dance record, chock-full of wild, exhilarating ragers, but in the same breath a testament to living and never looking back. By opening themselves up to a new, "liberating" way of making music, Sextile have produced their most creative work to date. So far, because you can just feel that they have so much more to give.
