It is a combination of Delta Blues and Hill Country Blues, featuring a combination of slow, soulful blues ballads and fast-paced, rhythmically-driven blues songs. Memphis Blues typically incorporates electric guitars, pianos, saxophones, and sometimes horns. The style dates back to the late 1920s and early 1930s, when local musicians like W.C. Handy, Furry Lewis, and Memphis Minnie began to combine Delta and Hill Country Blues to create a distinct sound.
