Indie Rock

Indie Rock is a genre of alternative rock that emerged in the 1980s. It is characterized by its DIY ethos and often contains elements of punk, folk, lo-fi, experimental, and/or electronic music. The genre is generally seen as an independent response to the mainstream sound of the time, and many of its key artists had a strong DIY ethic, recording and releasing their own music without major label support. Indie Rock also often deals with topics such as alienation, apathy, relationships, and other themes of everyday life. Artists associated with the genre include The Smiths, Sonic Youth, The Strokes, and The Pixies.
