Eric Dolphy (1928-1964) was an American jazz musician who is regarded as one of the most important figures in avant-garde jazz. He played a variety of instruments including flute, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, and bassoon, and was also an accomplished vocalist.

Dolphy's most notable albums include Far Cry (1960), Out to Lunch! (1964), and Out There (1960). Far Cry featured Dolphy's renowned flute playing and is often considered his most accomplished work. Out to Lunch! was his first and only album as a leader and featured a number of innovative compositions. Out There is a live album that showcases Dolphy's unique approach to improvisation.
