Tom Smith, frontman of the Editors, has announced his solo debut album "There Is Nothing In The Dark Which Isn't There In The Light".
After two decades as frontman of Editors and two albums with Smith & Burrows, Tom Smith is taking the first step in his solo career with "There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn't There In The Light". Motivated by a desire to return to the raw, acoustic beginnings of his songwriting, Smith set out to create something more intimate and personal, far removed from the collaborative nature of his band projects.
He initially attempted to craft these songs with longtime friend and collaborator Andy Burrows, but ultimately opted for a more solitary path and brought producer Iain Archer on board instead. Together they created an album characterized by emotional honesty, acoustic textures and themes of connection, memory and resilience, embedded in melancholic sounds that nevertheless radiate hope.
Throughout the album, Smith strikes a balance between stripped-down arrangements and cinematic elements, creating a dynamic range - from the minimalist pain of "Broken Time" to the sweeping drama of "Life Is For Living". Tracks like "Lights Of New York City" evoke a nostalgic longing, while "Northern Line" and "How Many Times" reflect on friendships and past experiences.
