  • The rare and sought-after Latin rock album "Power Fuerza", by the Ghetto Brothers from the South Bronx, who transformed themselves from a street gang into a music group, from 1972, is now being released as a deluxe reissue in an 80-page book in CD format on the New Truth & Soul label run by Leon Michels (El Michels Affair / Dap Kings) and Jeff Silverman (Lee Fields / Aloe Blacc producer) on the New York Truth & Soul label. The book contains rare photos, scans of gang member materials and extensive liner notes extensive liner notes by renowned journalist, DJ and record collector Jeff "Chairman" Mao (Ego Trip) on the history of the Ghetto Brothers and an interview with founder and leader Benjy Melendez.

The Ghetto Brothers originally consisted of three brothers from the Melendez family, who came to New York from Puerto Rico in the 1950s. After incidents related to violence and crime, Benjy pushed his crew to do more positive things and promote the local community in the early 70s. In addition to their social work in the neighborhood and charitable activities, they created a unique New York sound as a band influenced by British rock'n'roll, funk and Latin music.
