Released on March 31, 2007, Young Modern is the fifth and final studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair. Co-produced by lead singer Daniel Johns and Nick Launay, the album marks a significant departure from the band's earlier grunge sound, embracing a polished glam-rock aesthetic with orchestral arrangements and art-pop influences. Notable collaborations include composer Van Dyke Parks, who contributed orchestral arrangements recorded with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, and musicians like Luke Steele and Paul Mac.
The album features singles such as "Straight Lines," which became Silverchair's third number-one single in Australia, "Reflections of a Sound," "If You Keep Losing Sleep," and "Mind Reader." Young Modern debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart, making Silverchair the first Australian band to have five consecutive number-one albums. The album was certified triple platinum in Australia and won six ARIA Awards in 2007, including Album of the Year, Best Group, and Single of the Year for "Straight Lines" .
