With "Gala", Lush released their first compilation album in 1990 - a compilation of the early EPs "Scar" (1989), "Mad Love" (1990) and "Sweetness and Light" (1990), supplemented by two exclusive tracks: a cover version of ABBA's "Hey Hey Helen" and the extended Robin Guthrie mix of "Scarlet". The release marked the band's entry into the US and Japanese markets at the time. To mark its 35th anniversary, Gala will now be released on November 14, 2025 in a lavishly reissued edition: as a standard LP/CD and as a deluxe colored vinyl box set (3x12" + 7").
Both formats were remastered by Kevin Vanbergen 2025. The deluxe edition also features artwork designed by Chris Bigg, based on original artwork by v23 (Vaughan Oliver and Chris Bigg), as well as a newly written band biography by Norwegian author and musician Jenny Hval. For the first time since 1990, Gala is officially available again.
The Gala 35th Anniversary Edition follows the remasterings of the studio albums "Spooky", "Split" and "Lovelife" released in 2023. Last year, the band also presented the short film "A Far From Home Movie" by bassist Phil King in collaboration with the Criterion Channel - a work in honor of drummer Chris Acland, who died in 1996, which shows intimate Super8 recordings of Lush tours between 1992 and 1996
