In 2004, everyone from Spex, Rolling Stone to MTV and the Chart Show could agree on "Friends Of Mine" by Adam Green. It goes without saying that he has his very own style and moves far away from any trends.
"Gemstones" brings 15 little musical gems, not at all with strings, but nevertheless or precisely because of this 100% Adam and even better than expected. The first reactions from the press have been absolutely enthusiastic.
Reviews
D. Plauk in Musikexpress 1/05: "The same charm. The same wit. The same unrelenting, disarming acumen, so remarkable for a songwriter just 13 years old, that you encountered on Adam Green's last album "Friends Of Mine", you will also encounter on "Gemstones". Artistically highly effective and with a sensitivity in which he actually already resembles the greats with whom he has recently been compared more and more frequently: Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood, Van Dyke Parks. It's breathtaking how rapidly one passage follows the next in the opener "Gemstones", how between between ponderous acoustic guitars and cute organ whistles and how often there is just a drum break and all of this can be wiped away within seconds by a new, completely different piece. At the end of the day, you know that Adam Green has become an even greater entertainer since his last album "Friends Of Mine" - and has remained the same indecent storyteller between wisdom of age and beatnik poetry. Record of the month."
C. Hammer in stereoplay 2/05: "Gemstones" shows the 23-year-old musician and author to be a master of ambitious song miniatures: In playful two to three minutes, Green deftly changes rhythm and mood, roams through bohemian cabaret music and melancholy piano pop - and shines with charmingly witty lyrics."
