  • Baby Huey is one of the best soul singers of all time thanks to his distinctive voice. Even though Howard Tate or Otis Redding became more famous, the works of Baby Huey quickly developed into a cult

    Well-known artists like A Tribe Called Quest or Ice Cube, for example, used the single "Hard Times" as a sample source for their beats.

    The circumstances surrounding the release of his only album also contributed to the cult of the singer: Even before all the songs were in the can, Baby Huey died of a heart attack in 1970. His manager Marv Heinman and Curtis Mayfield added the missing instrumental parts to the recordings so that the record "The Baby Huey Story" could still be released.
