Weather Report was one of the most artistically significant and commercially successful jazz and fusion bands in the 1970s and 1980s. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1971, and the young musicians created an original and haunting record that defined jazz-rock at the time.Wayne Shorter's soprano saxophone (Miles Davis Ensemble in the 1960s) shines, revealing with full force the extraordinary rapport that the members of the group have built from the beginning. The music consists of subtle melodic lines and is mostly an atmospheric journey of adventure. Influences from Miles Davis' In A Silent Way / Bitches Brew sessions can be heard throughout the album.Weather Report is a historical document in the jazz world, a soundtrack to the imagination and mind of jazz fans. For most of its existence, the band was a quintet of keyboards, saxophone, bass, drums and percussion. Famous members included American saxophonist Wayne Shorter, keyboardist Joe Zawinul, bassist Jaco Pastorius and drummer Chester Thompson.
