Express, balancing muscular grooves with crisp, melodic writing. Released in 1975, it captures the band at the point where fusion, funk and jazz craft met in a highly polished West Coast sound. Scott’s saxophone leads the group through taut, rhythm-driven pieces, while The L.A. Express give the music its flexibility and drive. The album’s mix of deft improvisation and accessible hooks helped make it one of Scott’s best-known recordings and a strong example of mid-1970s jazz-funk at its most assured.

Artist: Tom Scott, The L.A.
