Originally the band consisted of Dr. Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty

One of their first releases is the 23-minute song A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules from the Centre of the Ultraworld, which made The Orb famous in one fell swoop and made them icons of the British rave movement. The opus was marked by a playful rock understanding of electronic music, paving the way for bands like The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers. Afterwards, Jimmy Cauty left The Orb and concentrated on his music project The KLF, which was just becoming successful.
