  • The Japanese House is Amber Bain, the 23-year-old Londoner behind the singer-songwriter's solo project, who has now produced her debut album, along with BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Francis and The Lights) and George Daniel of The 1975, it follows four acclaimed EPs

Bain first heard the phrase Good at Falling when a friend showed her a computer game in which the protagonist suffers an existential crisis - and immediately started crying. "I thought it was the most beautiful, sad ache ever." She had just finished her long-awaited debut album and was searching for an appropriate title that could reflect the period of uncertainty and change that the songs carried

Over the past few years, the mystery that is The Japanese House has dissolved into a clear artistic vision. With 4 EPs released between 2015 and 2017, Bain has long since given birth to album-length material, honing the sound and feel of her tangled indie-pop dreamscapes - but she needed the time to complete Good at Falling. Partly because much of the last three years on the road and on tour flew by, and because she needed to draw a line under the new beginning first.
