Cool Struttin' – Sonny Clark

The music critics claim that Sonny Clark hasn't made a weak recording in his whole life. This statement often conceals the fact that he was only 31 years old. In 1958 he recorded his most famous work at Blue Note Records and defined his reserved, bluesy style with it. The long takes on this album show an almost mystical connection between the musicians and jazz itself, so rarely captured.
As an in-house musician at Blue Note Records, Sonny Clark had a correspondingly good selection among his colleagues and so Art Farmer on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums play alongside him on piano. This recording belongs to those titles that become better and better with increasing hearing.
