Description

"Raymond Scott was definitely a pioneer in the development of music technology and a pioneer in bringing them commercially as a musician on the application." -Robert Moog

Raymond Scott (1908-1994) was between the thirties and fifties a famous bandleader, composer and Pianist. Many of his playful riffs, which he originally recorded with the Raymond Scott Quintet between 1937 and 1939, are almost part of the genetic code of every human being, because at the time Warner Bros. music director Carl Starling adapted the riffs for over 100 Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck cartoons .

The rediscovery of Scott's original jazz recordings led to a belated appreciation of the forgotten genius in the 1990s. His early works were covered by the Kronos Quartet, Don Byron, the Metropole Orchestra, the Beau Hunks Sextets and countless others, while bands like Rush, They Might Be Giants, Devo and many, many more made use of "Powerhouse" from 1937 and the subjects found themselves in animated series like The Simpsons, Animaniacs and Duckman.

While Scott was active as a bandleader, rumours of an alter ego, an electronic music pioneer in a lab coat grew and while his work in this field was little published, that changed in 1997 with the re-issue of the "Soothing Sounds For Baby" trilogy from 1963. The trilogy contained calm electronic compositions designed to calm and delight children. In retrospect it is also clear that the pioneering spirit of Scott in terms of rhythmic minimalism from the synthesizer was finally carried over to Terry Riley, Phillip Glass, Kraftwerk and Brian Eno. But the "Soothing Sounds." Could not have expected what Basta showed with "Manhattan Research Inc." (MRI) - groundbreaking electronic music from the years 1956-1969.
