Nina Simone – In Concert - Emergency Ward!

Condition: Brand New
Ships from: Melbourne

Limited first edition of 1,000 numbered LPs on Transparent Red Vinyl - Audiophile 180g Vinyl - Print supplement - 1972 album feat. "My Sweet Lord / Today Is A Killer" medley.

"Emergency Ward" (1972) is Nina Simone's statement about the Vietnam War. Simone approaches the topic less politically but in a more spiritual way, which makes the album reflect the events of that time appropriately

The first page of the LP contains an 18-minute medley of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and the poem "Today is a Killer" by David Nelson, tuned to the music of Nina Simone. The complete performance is strongly reminiscent of gospel and resembles the Capitols' album "Cool Jerk" in its style. The vocal arrangements, recorded together with the Bethany Baptist Church Junior Choir of South Jamaica, New York, show Nina Simone at her best. Side B contains the Lennie Bleecher-Jeremy Wind Song "Poppies" and George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity". Tracks 1 and 4 were recorded in November 1971 in Fort Dix, tracks 2-3 were recorded at RCA Studio in New York City.
