  • On his archive page Neil Young presented the cover of the live album documenting a solo performance at the "Shakespeare Theater" in Stratford, Connecticut from January 1971.

"It is the earliest known film of any of my concerts," Neil Young writes. It was pieced together from footage from a variety of sources. In addition to original film strips and 16-millimeter copies, there are also clips from the German TV series "Swing in", for which Dutch director Wim van der Linden filmed the concert at the time. Some of the footage had already been used by Young to illustrate the then unfilmed concert at Toronto's Massey Hall, where he played much the same set.

The soundtrack, Young continues, was edited by producer John Hanlon, who helped it achieve sonic brilliance. "The result is one of the purest sounding acoustic performances we have in the archive," he says. "Young Shakespeare" is also superior to "Live At Massey Hall," he said, because it was a quieter performance, without the celebratory atmosphere of his native Toronto. "'Young Shakespeare' is a very special event. To my fans, I say it's the best ever," Neil Young announces wholeheartedly.
