Sketches Of Spain – Miles Davis (Coloured Vinyl)

Condition: Brand New
Ships from: Melbourne

Miles Davis is certainly the most successful of all jazz legends. Even if his recordings were occasionally controversial - there was always one thing people agreed on: Sketches Of Spain from 1959 is one of the most important jazz works ever. Pieces such as Concierto De Aranjuez, Saeta and Solea bear witness to the incomparable virtuosity of this exceptional musician, with which Miles Davis underpinned his already then undisputed claim to the throne of the jazz Olympus.

"Davis' tin bag opened on the A-side an excerpt from 'Concierto de Aranjuez' (1939) by Joaquín Rodrigo and the song "Will O' The Wisp (1914 / 15) from a ballet by Manuel de Falla. The B groove belonged to Miles Davis' musical partner Gil Evans, who Saeta' and 'Solea' wrote the LP songs arranged and conducted the orchestra. Both Pieces come to the free-jazz faible of the Trumpeters, but remain structurally tangible. Likewise the traditional 'The Pan Piper' opening page two." (Good Times, June / July 2017)
