Released in 1970 with The First National Band, it followed the breakthrough of Magnetic South and carried forward his blend of folk-rock ease, pedal steel colour and sharp, unfussy songwriting. The album is best known for Silver Moon, one of Nesmith’s most enduring solo-era songs, and it helped confirm him as more than a former Monkee: he was a serious writer and bandleader with a clear musical identity.
