Description

Although "Exile In Guyville" didn't exactly hit the audience like a bomb in 1993, Liz Phair's debut album was very well received by the critics. Today it is regarded as a feminist milestone in rock history that paved the way for numerous songwriters and singers.

The album title is an allusion to "Exile On Main Street" by the Rolling Stones - "Guyville" stands for Chicago's male-dominated indie scene, where Phair lived at the time. The record acquired a legendary reputation over the years and can be found in various best lists. For example, the Rolling Stone magazine "Exile In Guyville" is featured in the 500 best albums of all time and in the Top 100 of the 90s.

"Pitchfork" even put the record in 5th place among the 100 best releases of the nineties. The work has also found its way into numerous essays. In 1998 the work achieved gold status in the USA. Emily Lazar (The Lodge) provided a sound technical update for the new edition.
