"One of the greatest stage musicians in contemporary jazz," writes the renowned British daily The Guardian, commenting on the English pianist John Taylor. As house pianist of the legendary jazz club Ronny Scott's, Taylor accompanied many jazz greats.
Decipher, Taylor's 1973 album for MPS featuret two top performers: Bassist Chris Laurence and drummer Tony Levin perfectly complement Taylor's wide-ranging playing on an album that gives the listener a pleasurable insight into his compositions. The virtuoso runs of Cipher lead into the varied tempos and emotional worlds of Wait For Me, while Leaping is an abstract exchange of the trio with pointillist traits. The soulful jazz waltz Speak To Me gradually turns out to be a magical feat, and Song For a Child carries the mood of a softly sung ballad. White Magic finally serves as a real elixir with the healing power of swing.
On his second album as bandleader, Taylor presents himself in full bloom as a composer and musician - what a joy that this music is now available again.

"At no moment boring, mostly fast and driving rhythmic. Hans- Georg Brunner-Schwer produced a "No frills sound." (Good Times, February / March 2018)
"Bass left, piano center, drums right. The stylus has to handle quite a dynamic range. Excellent remastering." (Audio, March 2018)
