American singer-songwriter Joe Henry is a welcome guest on the country folk scene. His acoustic 3rd album Shuffletown is full of relaxing and timeless songs, presented with a very interesting instrumentation consisting of stand-up bass, vibraphone and accordion.
The album, recorded in only 4 days, was produced by Americana Star T-Bone Burnett. The result is this masterpiece from 1990 with a warm basic note and incredible lyrics. Joe Henry began his musical career with appearances in local clubs.
After the release of his first album Talk of Heaven (1986) he earned his first contract with a big label. Later he released more impressive titles in his own famous alto country style.
"From the deep purring, bubbling and grumbling acoustic bass to the stuffed trumpet, the recordings on the excellently finished LP are as excellently overplayed as Bernie Grundman's CD before." (Stereo, May 2019)
