Hozan Yamamoto (1937-2014), bamboo flutist and legend of Japanese jazz, is rightly considered a true master of his instrument and was honoured as a "living national legend" by the Japanese government in 2002.Over five decades, he has evolved the bamboo flute and the way it is played, taking in fusion, funk, spiritual jazz and many other sounds. "Akuma Ga Kitarite Fue Wo Fuku" is the soundtrack to Kōsei Saitō's 1979 mystery and suspense film "Devil's Flute".Producer Haruki Kadokawa invited Hozan Yamamoto to compose the soundtrack and also hired keyboardist and producer Yu Imai, resulting in an extravagant disco soundtrack in the end.
