This album also introduced his new band with Joe Henderson and Carmell Jones and features the classic band with Blue Mitchell and Junior Cook.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA decade into his recording career, pianist Horace Silver created this album that would become the crown jewel of his body of hard bop classics. \"Song for My Father\" documents the transition of his quintet with two tracks from an October 1963 session with Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor and Roy Brooks. A year later, Silver returned to the Van Gelder Studio with a new band consisting of Carmell Jones, Joe Henderson, Teddy Smith and Roger Humphries.
