This set moves from the lean, instantly recognisable themes of A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to later landmarks such as The Mission, Cinema Paradiso, and music connected to Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

What makes this compilation useful is its range. Rather than stopping at the westerns, it sketches Morricone's wider language: dramatic orchestral writing, memorable melodic lines, and the way he could shift from tension and grandeur to tenderness without losing his identity. Pieces like "Gabriel's Oboe," "Deborah's Theme," and "The Ecstasy of Gold" show why his music travelled far beyond the films themselves.

Collected was issued as a 34-track double album and works as a strong introduction to the scale of Morricone's catalogue, from 1960s Italian cinema to much later international productions. For anyone who knows a few famous themes and wants a broader picture, this is a well-chosen overview of a composer whose scores sold in vast numbers worldwide and remained central to his reputation right through his late-career Oscar win for The Hateful Eight.

Features

2xLP, 180g, Music On
