Henryk Górecki wrote his most famous composition as early as 1977: the 3rd Symphony op. 36. It was re-released in 1992 as the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs" and became one of the most successful classical music releases of all time. It was based on three texts, including a prayer carved into the wall by a teenager at a Gestapo headquarters

Now, acclaimed saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Colin Stetson reinterprets the composition on his album "Colin Stetson Presents Sorrow - A Reimagining of Gorecki's 3rd Symphony"

Stetson became known through successful solo albums and recordings with artists such as Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, TV On The Radio, Feist and Animal Collective

For "Sorrow" he secured the support of string players Sarah Neufeld and Rebecca Foon as well as drummer Greg Fox. Stetson remained relatively faithful to the original composition. The core of "Sorrow" is made up of several woodwind instruments as well as synthesizers and electric guitars. Nevertheless, the string instruments of the original composition are not neglected.
