  • This is what it sounds like when two have found each other: Three years ago, Bon Iver boss Justin Vernon and The National guitarist Aaron Dessner released their first album together, "Big Red Machine." They also chose the title as the name for their project.

The new album was produced by Dessner at his Long Pond Studio in Upstate New York and celebrates his unique creative partnership with Vernon across 15 songs.

In addition, many of Dessner's friends and former collaborators found their way into the studio to continue the mutual exchange of ideas that defines his creative community. The songs include contributions from Robin Pecknold of the Fleet Foxes ("Phoenix"), British singer-songwriter Ben Howard and Paris-based British musician Kate Stables aka This Is The Kit ("June's A River"), American artist and rapper Naeem ( "Easy To Sabotage"), american singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten, Irish musician Lisa Hannigan, and multi-instrumentalist and My Brightest Diamond vocalist Shara Nova ("Hutch," which was inspired by Dessner's late friend, Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison) , and megastar Taylor Swift ("Birch" and "Renegade").

Dessner describes the collaboration with his guests as follows: "This is all music that I originally wrote and feel emotionally connected to, but it's been very interesting to hear different people relate to it and how different voices interact with it. That's what makes it special . With everyone on this record, there's an openness, a creative generosity, and an emotional quality that ties it all together. "

There is also a premiere for Dessner on "How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last?": On three songs, the musician and producer also took over vocal parts for the first time.
