Burn Your Fire For No Witness – Angel Olsen

Description

On her new album "Burn Your Fire For No Witness", Angel Olsen sings at the top of her lungs with a daring, expressive melodic touch. With the help of producer John Congleton, the result is an agitated, crackling album full of luminous energy.

Angel Olsen began her singing career as a young girl in St. Louis. Her self-released debut EP "Strange Cacti" belies both her previous creative period and her Midwestern origins. Subsequently, Olsen took it a step further, showcasing a mature voice and profound subject matter on her first full-length album (released on Bathetic Records). Olsen thus ventured into a more personal direction. After intensive touring, Angel Olsen moved to Chicago's Logan Square neighbourhood for a time, where a collection of songs grew out of a year of heartbreak, travel and transformation that eventually became Burn Your Fire For No Witness.

Many of the songs remained essentially unchanged since the beginning. Because of this intactness, we now get to experience a much more confident Olsen, who presents her songs to us as if we were in the same room. Our reward for entering this room are moments of listening and the powerful, consuming realisation of ourselves in the weave of her songs.

Reviews

"You have to love a singer who starts her album with a song called "Unfuck The World". (...) Rarely has the feeling that only music can sustain you in life been expressed so convincingly." - DER SPIEGEL KW 07-2014

"Their music is that of a fallen angel, drawn by existential fears, fearless coolness and subtle sex." - SPEX 02 / 2014

"After reverb balladry and Americana folk, this Will Oldham-area wonder girl is moving into psychpop. Underproduced, haunting and eerily beautiful." - TV FEATURE 02 / 2014

"Angel Olsen (...) is guaranteed to never leave your mind (...) a melange of alternative country, Americana campfire atmosphere and singer/songwriter folk, but that doesn't describe the magic that emanates from Olsen's voice, lyrics and her jangling guitar." - TONSPION. de 02 / 2014

"Angel Olsen, with her unadulterated, charmingly melancholic manner captured on record, is able to captivate the listener from beginning to end and touch them with all her sincerity." - ECLAT-MAG. de 02 / 2014

"A singer who grows with the tasks and presents us here with a breathtaking album. Listen and enjoy." (Record of the Week #07) - OH FANCY. de
