Czarface, MF Doom – Super What?

Super What?, released May 7, 2021, is the second full-length collaboration between hip-hop supergroup Czarface (Inspectah Deck, Esoteric, 7L) and late rapper MF DOOM. Recorded in April 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the album arrived posthumously and serves both as continuation of their earlier work (notably *Czarface Meets Metal Face*) and a tribute to DOOM’s legacy. Within its compact runtime, *Super What?* prioritizes energetic comic-book aesthetics, playful lyricism, and boom-bap revivalist production—elements long associated with both artists. The project is structured around dual identities (“Doom Side” and “Czar Side”) and features guest appearances from Del the Funky Homosapien, DMC, Kendra Morris, and Godforbid.

Although MF DOOM’s contributions are relatively sparse, his presence remains potent—each verse delivered with characteristic enigma and gravity. Meanwhile, Inspectah Deck and Esoteric carry much of the narrative momentum, leaning into the collective’s signature synergy. The production by the Czar-Keys leans on crisp percussion, melodic samples, and tasteful skits, framing the performances in familiar yet polished aesthetics.
