  • "Bright Green Field" is an absolutely thoughtful work, with a clear inner tempo based on a complex structure. The intensity of the Squid sound is so burning, the fire so infectious, and the passionate heat so intense that just working on the album feels like fever pitch

    The result not only skirts genre boundaries, but transcends them, making a trajectory impossible to predict. Field recordings of church bells and bees meet a microphone swinging from the ceiling in a room full of guitar amps. Over the course of the first single, "Narrator," a massive funk impact sinks into crashing chaos as guest vocalist Martha Skye Murphy spreads her harmonies over it. Atmospheric post-rock expanses follow, immersive compactness combined with subtle horns, spiky post-punk with wild kraut jazz, orchestral / jazz musicians like saxophonist Lewis Evans (Black Country, New Road) and Emma-Jean Thackray.
