Muddy Waters (1915-83) was a central figure in the development of the Chicago Blues in the 1950s. Nevertheless, the following decade initially marked an artistic and commercial low point in Water's career. Due to the general dwindling interest in blues in the USA, his label Chess Records tried to find new strategies to better market Waters. In addition, Waters' audience had completely changed. While African-Americans turned to soul and funk, white students and folkies in the wake of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton & Co. discovered the sound of the Muddy Waters band of the 1950s for themselves. This resulted in productions such as "Brass & The Blues" (1966). The album consisted of blues standards that were reinterpreted by Waters, an added brass section was supposed to enhance the product musically. The following year the 'Super Blues' LP, conceived as a jam session, came out with Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Little Walter. In 1968/69 the psychedelic rock influenced and controversially discussed concept albums "Electric Mud" and "After The Rain" followed.
