  • Five decades ago Anja Thauer was admiringly called "the German Jacqueline du Pré" - today she is, as the British "Guardian" put it in a portrait in 2020, "the greatest cellist you've never heard of". The highly gifted young artist was on the verge of a great international career, which already included several recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, when she died in 1973 at the age of only 28.

Anja Thauer, born in the same year (1945) as her legendary colleague Jacqueline du Pré, caused a great stir in the musical world with her recording of Dvořák's famous Cello Concerto with the Czech Philharmonic and conductor Zdeněk Mácal in 1968. Recently her recordings have been rediscovered, and the aforementioned interpretation now reappears on vinyl for the first time. The recording appears in a 180-gram pressing, based on the master of the original source and using the original artwork, provided with a new accompanying text by Tully Potter
