The Shins

The Shins are an American indie rock band formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1996 by singer-songwriter James Mercer. The band consists of Mercer, Jessica Dobson, Yuuki Matthews, Jon Sortland, Patti King, and Mark Watrous.

The Shins have released four studio albums: Oh, Inverted World (2001), Chutes Too Narrow (2003), Wincing the Night Away (2007) and Port of Morrow (2012). Their first single, "New Slang" from Oh, Inverted World, was featured in the 2004 film Garden State and was the band's breakout song. Other notable singles from their albums include "Caring Is Creepy" from Oh, Inverted World, "Phantom Limb" from Chutes Too Narrow, and "Simple Song" from Port of Morrow.

An interesting fact about The Shins is that they were the opening act for Coldplay on the North American leg of their Viva La Vida Tour in 2008.
