His style was characterized by a light and airy tone, and he became known as “The Sound” because of his distinctive sound.

Getz was a pioneer in the development of cool jazz and bebop, and he made significant contributions to the development of bossa nova. He collaborated with a variety of jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, and Chet Baker, and his career spanned the swing, bop, cool jazz, and bossa nova eras. He recorded more than 60 albums as a leader and more than 70 as a sideman.
